After then, you can see all the found files. They are sorted and put into the directory in the left panel. Select the file type on the left side and check out the details. When find the files lost from downloads folder, select them and click "Recover" to save them on your computer. Downloads folder is not a perfect place to save important files.

Actually, I should take some time and move those files into more appropriate folders. Since my old Win 7 machines run with a standard user for everyone and an admin user for me, downloading a file while logged in as admin made it difficult for other users, either on the machine or on the network, to find these files.
Problem solved! I believe it to be number 1 on the list above. But whatever or wherever it is located, I have never lost a file that I downloaded.
And, as Leo suggests, if it is an important download, I move it to a separate, distinct folder and back it up! Makes typing these entries into various open and save dialog boxes MUCH easier. When I set up a new machine, I can often bring over the dozens of programs that the old one used; and in some cases I can use the same setup files used in the original machine. This may seem simplistic but I have never deleted any downloads. I was never sure what to delete. I posted this problem before and accidentally checked that the reply solved the problem, but it didn't.
The issue might be related to antivirus program which you are using. If the antivirus deducts that the files which you have downloaded has virus then it will automatically removes the file from the hard disk and quarantines the file.

It's very impostant that you specify the location of the folder that you are selecting as the location for the downloaded files. Files downloaded from the internet are the most likely to contain malicious code. There are security components in Windows 7 that are designed to prevent infections.
If you are downloading to a system location, Windows may transparently redirect the download to a more secure location. Method I'm using MSE for antivirus. The latest file I'm trying to download is IE9, directly from the Microsoft site.
