Your computer responds slowly as the process overloads the physical limitations of your drive. What are you to do? The solution is simple, identify and stop the process that is killing your drive. There are two methods and tools that you can use to identify the process. Once you have identified the bad process, you can kill it in Task Manager. Method 1 Click on the Start Button and key in perfmon.
I keep having to edit it! Usually its just background noise. In reply to JH's post on February 6, I have also just tried uninstalling McAfee, but it still happens I've reinstalled it again Surely there is a program like DiskMon which easily monitors what is accessing the disk? In reply to SpiritX's post on February 6, HI, Spybot is not on this PC anymore, so it can't be that. Yesterday with online help from McAfee I went thru their stuff, then uninstalled, reboot, reinstalled McAfee but to no avail.
Virus Protection is still enabled. It did this yesterday, then thrashed again a while later This option seems like a duplication of downloading signatures, but appears to do it in real time.. If this is now quiet for a couple of days I will post here so others might see if it solves their problems as well. I still have the Explorer crashing to look into now tho Is there a MS fix for this anywhere? Thanks J. In reply to JH's post on February 7, Hi, Explorer crashing could also be all or in part McAfee.
In reply to SpiritX's post on February 7, Hi, I have uninstalled McAfee completely. I used the additional uninstaller which McAfee provides to remove the last remnants And I have now installed AVG.. I have had Norton on years ago, but I have been using McAfee for 2 years now.
The disk is still thrashing Have run SFC In reply to JH's post on February 8, Check disk found nothing to report In reply to JH's post on February 9, Therefore, thrashing will last for a long time unless the potential issue is resolved. How to fix it? You can get the details from this post: Is Virtual Memory Low?
When the disk thrashing occurs, your computer will slow down because the process loads the physically limitations of your drive excessively. In addition, the system performance will reduce. As hard drive has a lot of work to do, thrashing sometimes is intense. However, too much intense thrashing will lead to hard drive failure.
