Casper the Friendly Ghost Wiki Explore. Comic Books. Tv series. Explore Wikis Community Central. This title is aimed at younger gamers, but will appeal to all, thanks to good graphics and general nuttiness. Casper can do some pretty neat stuff, like carry heavy objects, which strikes me as weird, because he's made out of ethereal material.
Another unusual aspect of the game is the fact that he can turn into smoke to travel through heating ducts, but can't enter rooms closed off by gates or rickety boards. Oh well. There have been many movie-to-game titles in recent years, but none like Casper.
Playing the part of Casper, you have many goals, including making friends, finding missing parts of the Lazarus machine and much more. All this might sound easy, but it is not. Hindering your progress of ultimately transforming yourself into a human are your uncles Fatso, Stinky and Stretch, along with a multitude of triggers, switches and hidden items throughout Whipstaff Manor. The characters and their voices in the game are modeled after those in the movie.
When gamers first see Casper, they will notice the attention to detail paid to every part of the game. This ranges from the intricate details of the foyer floor to the pictures on the walls. Even the tranquil orchestrated music in Casper sets a somber mood throughout the entire game. The game is quite large, and in order to search all of the different areas, you must be able to open doors and gates.
To open them you must either have the correct key, flip the correct switch or switches, weigh down platforms or move knights. Also found throughout the game are brass keys that open treasure chests. You will be able to find many useful items inside these chests, including more keys, weights, items used to ward off your uncles, and most importantly, puzzle pieces.
The puzzle pieces are actually pieces of a picture that must be put together in their corresponding frame on the wall. Once all four pieces are put together in the frame, Casper acquires a morph.
Each morph teaches Casper how to change into a different item, like smoke which allows him to travel through air vents, a bouncing ball which allows him to get into tight spaces, a hammer, fan and more.
There are many hints and techniques you will need to help you get through the game, but the most basic and elementary technique is to map your progress in the game. This is a list of games for the 3DO Interactive Multiplayer video game system, organized alphabetically by name. If you're feeling adventurous, try the advanced rom browser. This version of the game was released in , but was retired from the line in and replaced with JumpStart Adventures 4th Grade: Sapphire Falls, presumably due to it being deemed too scary for an educational game.
The plot, setting and characters of Sapphire Falls are completely unrelated to this game and the only Knowledge Adventure product in which any such elements of this game appeared is the long since discontinued online game of KnowledgeLand. However, while nothing of the plot was included in Sapphire Falls, it does include a few games similar to those from Haunted Island.
While the player is out of school one day, a witch names Mrs. Grunkle turns their classmates into monsters and brings them to her house in Haunted Island. The player, aided by a fortune teller named Madame Pomreeda and a bat named Flap, must traverse through the island and complete games to recover their classmates' possessions, which will change them back to normal.
They must also collect 25 keys to reach Mrs. Grunkle's attic, where the kids are held. During the game, the player is given missions by Madame Pomreeda. These missions require the player to complete three games to find a student's favorite things. Once the player has completed four missions, the character will be returned to normal, and the player will move on to another student.
The game keeps track of a player's successes and failures, and a poor performance in one minigame will lead to it appearing more often. The player also must collect 25 keys in order to reach the attic, where the kids are being held. These are collected by earning points in one particular minigame.
The user has a limited amount of «health,» which is indicated by a candle in the upper left hand corner of the screen. Health is depleted through answering Repsac's questions incorrectly and is indicated by the candle burning down.
If the candle burns out, the user is cast into the island's labyrinth, which contains a «fountain of health» that will cause the candle to reburn and, eventually, grow back to its original size.
However, finding one's way out of the labyrinth is difficult. In , a revised version of the game was published. Although little was changed in terms of gameplay, an in-game map was added, and the difficulty select was given an icon. Grunkle is the game's villainess and the fourth-grade substitute teacher who turned the kids into monsters and brought them to Haunted Island, which she apparently rules over.
Her appearance fits the popular depiction of a witch to a tee, with her having gray skin although it's blue on the icon , black clothing and a pointed hat.
